Description
(No Date) Susan B. Anthony Dollar (197X or 198X) Struck 60% Off-Center on a U.S. copper one Cent planchet. PCGS Mint Error MS64RB. Presently this is the only known SBA Dollar on a copper one Cent planchet struck off center. In fact, it is dramatically 60% off-center. Furthermore, this error is uniface! Wow, how? The blank unstruck Lincoln Cent planchet (this error coin’s planchet) was accidentally mixed amongst normal blank SBA planchet's prior to SBA’s being struck. Then, as the Minting process began, the blank Cent planchet partially entered the collar with a blank SBA planchet right behind it. Now, these two coins were hung up 60% off center within the collar. Both coins were struck. The result is the copper Cent planchet was struck on the obverse with the SBA die and because the reverse die never touched the copper planchet (the reverse die struck the SBA planchet) the reverse is blank. Conversely, in coin-land, there should be a 60% off center uniface SBA dollar error on a SBA planchet struck only by the reverse die which helped make this coin. Lastly, and another way to visualize this errors manufacture is the reverse die strike did not occur because the SBA Dollar planchet in between the reverse die and the copper planchet blocked it. A Spectacular error. Fresh to the market. Ex. Mike Byers 2024.
