Description
1928-S Peace Dollar housed in the original Blanchard slab as MS64, c. 1989 and out of the famous Redfield Dollar hoard.
This is one of four coins different coins offered now have been in the same family who purchased them directly from Blanchard. The preservation of this gemmy 1928-S Peace Dollar Blanchard slab containing this dollar is truly amazing. By today, most gem rare date dollars sold by Blanchard & Co. in the late 1980's Accugrade style slabs have been broken out and sent to PCGS or NGC for grading. You can date this Blanchard slab to 1989/90 because Blanchard & Co. in 1989 under Mike Fuljenz' stewardship had recently purchased for retail purposes the remainder of the Redfield hoard of about 7000 Morgan and Peace Dollars from Steve Markoff's A-Mark Precious Metals. Rare S Mint Peace dollars were plentiful in the Redfield deal. As a footnote Blanchard was likely the greatest retailer of coins at it's peak in 1989 under Mike Fuljenz. About 1989 Blanchard acquired the rights for a short period of time to use Alan Hagar's Accugrade slab and holder. The Accugrade slab was used by Blanchard in order to market the balance of the Redfield deal slabbed and Blanchard also sold common to rare coins in these Accugrade slabs which Blanchard acquired at either coin shows or privately. Blanchard sold all of these coins to their retail client base. The historical story of these coins and the Blanchard slabs containing them is numismatically important today.
